Youth Programs Barnstable Youth Lacrosse is an instructional program designed to introduce young players (Grades 1 to 8) to the exciting game of lacrosse. The Pre-Travel Program includes Intramural (grades 2-4) and New Start (grades 1-2) levels. Our Travel Program is anticipated to field 2 U11 teams, 2 U13 teams, and 2 U15 team for the 2006 season. All travel teams compete in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL). Sunday afternoon games are scheduled with teams from Cohasset, Scituate, Marshfield, Norwell, Bridgewater, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Falmouth, Plymouth, Sandwich, and Bourne. Early season emphasis will be on teamwork and individual skills. As players become more proficient with basic skills, offensive and defensive skills will be introduced. The season finale is the Jamboree held at Fort Devens in June with teams from all over Massachusetts. Registration: The registration fee for all 2006 travel programs is $175. The registration fee for the 2006 pre-travel program is $100. On-site registration was held at the Barnstable Recreation Department – Kennedy Rink in November 2005. Returning players were mailed a 2006 registration form and US Lax membership agreement the first week in November. Registration will close December 15, 2005. Late registrants are not guaranteed a place on a team. Due to the number of pre-season expenses incurred by the program, there will be no refunds after January 15, 2006.
Team
Assignments:
Although team assignments follow general MBYLL guidelines, the Barnstable
Youth Lacrosse is designed as a feeder program for our high school team. To
this end, the program has two primary goals: 1) introduce players to the
exciting game of lacrosse and 2) prepare players for lacrosse opportunities
that exist at the high school level. To meet both goals, each player has
been assigned a playing level based on age. The following description summarizes the playing levels
for Barnstable Youth Lacrosse. Under 11: This program is for players in Grades 3-4 with birthdays after January 1, 1995. Players will face a full schedule of MBYLL teams from Cohasset to Sandwich on Sunday afternoons. The early season emphasis is on developing basic lacrosse skills, teamwork, and a basic understanding of the game. As players become more proficient at base skills, more team offense and defense skills will be introduced. During the season, we may have scrimmages with local MBYLL teams during the week. The finale of the season will be the MBYLL Jamboree held in early June at Fort Devens for teams from throughout Massachusetts. Under 13: This program is for players in Grades 5-6 with birthdays after January 1, 1993. We play a full schedule of MBYLL teams from Cohasset to Nantucket and travel on Sundays to these contests. Uniforms and Equipment: All players will be provided game jerseys, practice shirts, and shorts. Jerseys must be returned at the end of the season: players may keep shorts and practice shirts. A list and description of required equipment can be found on our web site. Commitment: Coaches and members of the Board of Directors have made a significant time commitment to the program. As a player, you should make the same commitment to your teammates and coaches. Players are expected to attend practices and games and should consider lacrosse their primary sports commitment. Barnstable Youth Lacrosse generally offers two practices and one game per week beginning in early April and extending through mid-June. MBYLL games are regularly scheduled on Sunday afternoons. The season consists of 8 Sunday games and the Ft. Devens Jamboree in June. As the season progresses, additional games may be scheduled with local MBYLL teams during the week. |
