Welcome to the Barnstable Youth Lacrosse Program

Barnstable Youth Lacrosse is an instructional program aimed at introducing youngsters to the exciting and fun game of lacrosse. As an instructional program, emphasis will be on learning stick skills, game fundamentals, and most of all on having fun.  We will be competing against several towns in the South Shore, Cape and Islands, region of the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL). To accommodate growing interest in the program, we anticipate one U9, one U11, one U13, two U15 teams for the 2011 season. The two teams at U13 and U15 of the travel program will be of equal strength.  If you are new or inexperienced, don't worry!  You're not alone and you'll learn quickly, especially if you work hard.  All of the coaches want you to have a great time playing lacrosse this spring. If you or your parents ever have any concerns, speak to a coach or to any board member.

Practice Schedule:  Practice schedules are posted on the Calendar page.

Game Schedule: Each team will play at least eight games plus the season finale jamboree.  Most games will be on Sunday afternoons.  As the season progresses, games may be scheduled with other towns on practice days.   All schedules are subject to change – please check the Calendar for updates.

Equipment:  The required equipment you purchase to play can be very expensive.  Put your name clearly on all your equipment.

Mouth Guards:  Every player must wear a mouth guard.  You can't play without one.

Water:  Bring your own water bottle to practices and games.

Balls:  Always chase the ball after a missed catch or shot.

Team Assignments:  Are finalized prior to the first game - talk with coaches.

Weather:  If the weather is bad, games and/or practices may have to be rescheduled – please check the Home page for updates . We will occasionally practice and play in the rain.

Attendance:  Lots of kids have signed up to play this year. The ones who come to practice, dedicated to developing their skills, will see the most action in games, but our goal is to play everyone equally in all games.

Lacrosse Magazine:  Excluding intramural participants, once you have registered for Barnstable Youth Lacrosse, you automatically become a member of US Lacrosse and receive a membership card and Lacrosse Magazine.

Home Practice:  Find a masonry wall or backboard to throw against while working on your catching and throwing between practices. There is no better way to improve going both right and left-handed, which is extremely important.

Behavior:  When you registered to play in the Barnstable Youth Lacrosse program, all participants and parents were required to sign an MBYLL Lacrosse Code of Conduct.  As a reminder, please treat your coaches and teammates with respect.  Be a leader.  Never get down on a teammate; always encourage each other.  Never retaliate in a game; let the other team serve the penalty.  Never complain to the refs about a call.  Most importantly, keep up your schoolwork.  We want everybody to have a positive experience.  Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.  Work Hard, Play Hard, Have Fun!!!!!
